COMPASS Clay Studio Policies
Registration and Fees
Compass Clay Studio fees are due in full at the time of registration or on or before the first day of a new class session. Students will not be allowed to participate unless all fees have been paid. A late fee in the amount of $25 will be added to past due accounts.
In addition to class and/or punch pass fees, adult participants will be responsible for purchasing clay/glaze, firing fees and tools. No outside clay/glazes can be fired in our kilns without instructor approval. Firing fees will be billed at a rate of $.07 (plus tax) per cubic inch per piece for both bisque and glaze firings. Firing tickets and fees are due prior to bisque firing.
Absence Policy
Compass Clay Studio is unable to pro-rate fees for missed classes and we are unable to facilitate make-up days in most circumstances. Exceptions to this policy may be made only in cases of documented family or medical emergency. Classes are non-transferable and cannot be attended by anyone other than the registered participant.
For adult classes only, as a courtesy, we will excuse 1 missed class per every other 4 week class session.
Artwork Hold/Pickup Policy
Compass Clay Studio will hold your artworks for a maximum of 3 weeks after the last date of your class/workshop/event/or punch pass expiration date. Due to limited storage space, abandoned work will be discarded after this time.
Pickups for private workshops and kids parties are the responsibility of the party host. It is the host's responsibility to pickup and distribute finished pieces to their guests and individual guest pickups cannot be accommodated through the studio.
Open Studio Use Policy
Open Studio space is limited and offered on a first come first served basis. Open studio sessions are non-instructional.
We require participants in our open studio sessions to participate in 8 weeks of classes at Compass Clay Studio to familiarize themselves with the materials, processes and our specific studio workings prior to working independently. Participants in open studio sessions must be currently enrolled or previously enrolled in a class at Compass Clay Studio or have an understanding of ceramics and studio processes at either the high school/college level or equivalent. Participants with prior experience who have not worked at Compass Clay Studio are strongly encouraged to enroll in a one day workshop to see if the studio feels like a good fit. Individuals who do not have prior experience with clay/glaze will not be allowed to participate in open studio. Open studio sessions are designed for adult participants over 18.
Loss or Damage Policy
Compass Clay Studio is not responsible for glaze results, cracking, warping, breaking, damage or theft occurring during the production, loading, firing, unloading, pickup, shipping or delivery of pieces. Material and firing fees are nonrefundable.
Late Pickup/Early Dropoff Policy
Timely drop off and pickup of students enrolled in our children’s classes not exceeding 5 minutes before and after class time is greatly appreciated.
Early arrivals and late pickups are problematic for the preparation, cleanup and reset of the studio. We are unable to provide childcare and supervision before and after class.
A fee will be applied to accounts in the amount of $5 for every 5 minutes (in excess of a 5 minute grace period before/after the class session) that the child is left unattended by a parent/guardian. Continued early/late issues will sadly result in the suspension of studio participation.
Commercial Studio Usage and Firing Policy
Compass Clay Studio is a small community learning facility and cannot support most production commercial endeavors. We maintain the right to refuse firing services for commercial production purposes of works for resale. A minimum commercial firing fee of $1 per piece will be assessed on works approved for firing in addition to normal firing fees.
Private Event Cancellation and Project Confirmation Policy
A $50 deposit is required on all private event bookings. This deposit is fully refundable with a minimum of 48 hour cancellation notice. The deposit is non-refundable with cancellations made with less than 48 hour notice or on no-shows. To allow for studio set up, confirmation of party size and project type is needed within 48 hours of the event or the event will be cancelled without deposit refund.
Waiver of Liability
All participants must agree to the terms and conditions of these Policies and the Waiver of Liability Release if they wish to register at Compass Clay Studio. Please refer back to these policies regularly as they are subject to update and change.
